WELCOME HOME

When my family bought our home in Montreal West, I found myself falling in love with the diverse architecture of the houses and their unique character. My eyes were drawn to the doors, porches, and entryways – as if these were the faces that expressed clues about the families living within. Tricycles, baby strollers, snow shovels... all added to the personality of each dwelling. I soon found myself drawing these intimate scenarios and they became the subject of this series of etchings I named “Welcome Home”.

Each called for its own treatment: some combined with collagraphs, some on irregularly shaped plates and printed on various-sized paper. Once I had complete twenty of these prints, I was invited to exhibit them at a private gallery – not in Montreal West, but on rue St. Denis, in the trendy East End of Montreal.

This was my first solo exhibition, and I was very excited by the positive response it received. It proved to be an encouraging start to what developed into a long and prolific career. And the individual prints are still as popular and as timeless as our little town, which has never lost its warm and charming character.
