SETTING SAIL

Our family has been very fortunate to keep a boat on Lake Champlain and spend summer weekends and vacations cruising on that beautiful body of water. The scenery is breathtaking, with the Green Mountains in view on the Vermont side of the lake, the Adirondacks on the New York side, and picturesque bays in which to anchor and take in the majestic wooded vistas mirrored in deep blue waters.

I became enthralled with the activity of sailing we observed around us, in a variety of weather conditions and at different times of day. This inspired a series of work I titled “Setting Sail”. The sixteen prints in this series often combine etched plates of boats cut to their shape and printed over collagraphs in different combinations, which allowed for compositions limited only by imagination. My aim was to convey the excitement of movement against the backdrop of pristine water and landscape.

Upon completion, the series was exhibited in an artist-run gallery in downtown Montreal, and was very well received and reviewed in a variety of publications.
