FOOTPRINTS

WHY FEET?

In all the work I do as an artist I always try to connect my viewers to the scenes which I present.  I express a mood…a time of day… a fleeting moment…as seen from my perspective; my own particular point of view. In this series of work I chose to take this a step further; to include myself in my prints in order to make them more personal and even intimate.  By having my own feet in the foreground of each scene, and by starting outside of the frame, I am inviting the viewer to put him/herself I my place… to see what I saw at that moment of reflection… to share in the experience and in the appreciation felt at that time.

One hears so often of how our busy lives allow no time to “stop and smell the roses”.  In these prints that is exactly what I am doing.  I am taking a break from daily life, catching my breath, putting my feet up and absorbing the environment by which I am surrounded. In “Last Call”, I have taken off my skis and am sitting back and enjoying a spectacular view of the Alps.  It is my hope that the viewer feels that particular cold crispness that comes at the end of an exhilarating day. “Champagne Solo” is in my own living room after an intimate evening, one last sip of wine before retiring for the night. In “Life Before Coffee”, an otherwise bleak and icy morning is warmed by the rich colours of the breaking dawn.

Sometimes I share the moment with a friend or loved one, as in “Aperitif” and “Nightcap”, in which their feet join mine as a vehicle into that space and time.  My feet become a bridge into these scenes and welcome the viewer to merge with me: to see with my eyes…to hear my thoughts… to feel what I feel.  This is my ambition.  Please look for yourself and be the judge of my success.
